I began my costume design career by designing and making costumes for TV and movies in Hollywood in the early 90's. After my daughter Emily was born, I realized how much I enjoyed designing for children and moved my base of operation from Hollywood to Houston, Texas.
Like many other female entrepreneurs, I named by company after my daughter. Originally we were called Emily's Closet, since my first costumes were replicas of creations I had made for Emily, such as Dorothy and Snow White. Eventually, I renamed the business 'MissEm.com' - after Emily's nickname. We opened the web site with a set of core costumes (heavy on the princesses!) and branched out from there. We even hosted dress-up tea parties at one time.
I just love this business. I have an outlet for my creative drive, which lead me to be a costume designer in the first place, and control of what my designs will be. I also get to work with great friends and have even brought my daughter Emily into the fold, with her fresh eye and creative juices. Inspiration comes from all around. I am truly blessed to be surrounded by great sewers, friends and clients who always spark me with new ideas. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the pictures that my clients send me of their lovely children in my designs. Thanks to all of you for your support and inspiration.
